Whether you’re moving house and storing all your worldly possessions, you’ve got a small room to keep your seasonal goods, or you are starting a renovation project. Here are some tips for getting the most out of your personal self storage room with MyStore Self Storage.
“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful” – William Morris
Declutter before you move items into your storage room!
Only store what you REALLY need to keep. Upon leaving many customers feel frustrated that they weren’t more brutal getting rid of things before putting them into storage and once its in, visit regularly using the available daily access from 6am – 10pm.
Label, label, label your boxes!
Write down the contents of each box on all sides. You could even photograph any key pieces for protection purposes. Pack up the storage room according to how often you need to access the goods. Christmas decorations at the back, suitcases and key documents at the front.
Store furniture upright to maximise the space in the storage room.
take apart beds and furniture that easily dismantle (tape the fixtures to the furniture to prevent losing them). Squeeze light items into drawers and wardrobes. Stack your washer and dryer on top of one another… All of this could make the difference between a 50sqft and 75sqft room.
Use ALL available space!
Fill the room to the ceiling! Much of the space in self storage rooms will rely on stacking high. Heaviest items at ground level and we recommend storing boxes 4 high. Or, add some shelving units that you can hire or purchase from reception to maximise the space.
